Using AI for SEO Content? How to Avoid Common Pitfalls for Better Rankings

Using AI for SEO is a game-changer.

It’s not just about speed (though, wow, the time-saving benefits are huge); it’s about how AI can help you improve multiple key ranking factors, including user experience and content quality.

But let’s be honest, while AI throws open doors to groundbreaking opportunities, it’s not without its pitfalls.

So, I thought it would be helpful to address some common concerns you might have about using AI for SEO and share some strategies to directly address them.

1. Authenticity & Brand Voice

AI is a word-wizard, but keeping it on a tight leash with your brand’s tone of voice can be tricky. But not impossible. Here’s a tip you can try to clone your tone and make AI sound like you.

First, go to ChatGPT and add the following PROMPT:

“Detect the tone of voice and style from this content sample and give me a description of it without any additional details and without including any references to the content: [ADD SAMPLE].”

Add a content sample that captures your brand’s tone of voice.

Then, use the style description provided by ChatGPT in your future prompts to guide the AI’s writing style when it creates content.

2. Content Quality & Relevance

AI can generate content fast, sure, but how do we keep it from serving up the SEO equivalent of junk food? Google rewards valuable content, irrespective of how it’s created.

Use AI to generate ideas and draft outlines for your content to get the creative juices flowing.

But always layer in your unique expertise and insights to elevate the final material by:

✅ Incorporating original research, data, and case studies to add depth.

✅ Tailoring the content to address specific user questions and pain points, increasing relevance.

✅ Adding your personal anecdotes or experiences to make the content relatable and engaging.

3. Over-Optimization Hazards

AI might get a little too enthusiastic with keywords, leading to over-optimization, which makes the content unreadable and hurts user experience.

So make sure to always run your AI-generated content through the SEO Live Assistant from Squirrly SEO before publishing.

It will flag over-optimization and ensure your content is both human-friendly and Google-friendly.

A quick reminder before we wrap up

Approaching AI-generated content with a critical eye is key. Do your fact-checks, trust your gut, and tweak where necessary. AI is a fantastic partner in the SEO dance, but you’re the one with a brain and a heart — and that means you should be the one leading.
